Kings not interested in Parker

We reported yesterday that the Sacramento Kings had been mentioned as a possible trade partner for the Spurs in their hopes of moving up into the lottery by trading San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker.

2011 NBA DraftIt appears that while they could still pull off a trade into the lottery, the Spurs will not be picking up the seventh pick in tonight’s NBA draft, according to ESPN’s Chris Broussard.

Broussard tweeted that the Kings will not trade their selection for Tony Parker because of his four year, $50 million contract.

Broussard also said that the Kings could be looking to trade for Nuggets guard Raymond Felton, who currently earns about $7.5 million per season, to fill their void at point guard.

Kings forward Omri Casspi had been mentioned as a player who would come to San Antonio as part of the trade, but for now, it looks like Casspi and the number seven pick will stay in California’s capitol city.

Even without the seventh pick, the Spurs are also reportedly in talks with Milwaukee, Golden State or Utah for the 10th, 11th or 12th pick. The Pistons and Bobcats have also been mentioned in a trade involving George Hill, so if the Spurs are determined enough, there are still options outside of the seventh pick.

Be sure to come back for draft coverage throughout the day, including a post on why the Spurs should consider a lower risk trade outside of the lottery.
