Kidd taking a page from Popovich’s book on resting players

Jason KissApparently the large fine the San Antonio Spurs had to pay for resting players – or sending them home – prior to a road game against the Miami Heat early last season were not enough warning for some.

Brooklyn Nets coach Jason Kidd says he’ll likely be adopting something similar when it comes to resting his 37-year-old big man via Yardbarker.

"When you look at KG, probably no back-to-backs, but those are just topics right now that are being thrown around," Kidd said, according to Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News.

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich has always tried to keep a mindful eye on the minutes of his aging stars, most notably the big three, although Danny Green was sent home as well prior to that Heat game, which also spawned a class-action lawsuit from a Miami attorney.

While NBA commissioner David Stern will be retiring this season, Kidd could still see the wrath of Stern by way of fine if he decides to rest Garnett earlier in the season.
