The San Antonio Spurs will now be expected to lose quite a few games as Devin Vassell will be out for some time with an injury. There might be some trades following that news and that could mean a lot more losses in the near future. Knowing that, Keyonte George is a guy who could help Vassell next season as a go-to scorer.

Baylor’s Keyonte George is a 6-foot-4, 185-pound shooting guard who has shown a knack for some self-creation, playmaking, and is a super confident shooter. He plays solid on-ball defense and should be able to defend either guard spot at the next level. Here are his stats through 15 games so far this season.

  • 16.8 PPG, 1.3 SPG, 3.5 APG, 4.5 RPG
  • 38.2 FG%, 33.6 3P%, 82.7 FT%
  • 19.4 PER, 108.5 ORtg, 100.6 DRtg

Keyonte George Breakdown

George has a lot going for him that scouts initially thought might be weaknesses in his game. He can create space for himself and handles the ball exceptionally well. His shooting percentage is a bit concerning right now, but he also has a supremely high usage rate of 31.5%. This has forced him into taking a fairly significant number of bad shots. However, that should be alleviated by not having to do as much for himself at the next level.

The freshman is excellent in catch-and-shoot situations, especially on the perimeter. George can get to the bucket fairly well with a bevy of different dribble moves. He generally finishes through contact thanks to his strength and can stop and pop quickly in the mid-range. He has to be more consistent there (as evidenced by his poor field goal percentage) if he wants to truly pop for scouts. George also needs to let the game come to him more naturally as he tends to force the issue, hence taking some bad shots.

While George is not the best pure shooter in this draft, he is one of the more creative ones. He has nice scoring instincts, great mechanics on his jumper, and knows how to change speeds to get by defenders. He still has to improve on the angles he takes to get to the rim and some decision-making, but that will not stop him from going top-10 in this coming draft.
