Julius 'Dr. J' Erving likes to watch the Spurs and more

Former ABA and NBA great Julius “Dr. J” Erving recently did an interview with the New York Times, and San Antonio Spurs fans will like what he had to say about their beloved team.

When asked about which team he likes to watch, he picked the San Antonio Spurs:

I like the Spurs. They used to play with [Tim] Duncan in the post more. But they’ve moved away from it now. They try to spread out. Tony Parker drives the lane and dishes and Manu Ginobili does something. The offense doesn’t go through Duncan as much as it used to.

He also likes the Spurs to come out of the West:

The Spurs look awfully good. I think they’ll come out of the West. But if enough people say that, it will motivate the Lakers.

But does he feel the Spurs can win their fifth NBA title? Here is what he had to say:

They have a great chance. But watch out for Boston. They have more depth than anybody. I like what Doc Rivers is doing. He’s resting players early so they’ll have what they need at the end. And they know how to win.

Though Erving seems to be leaning to the Boston Celtics as the eventual NBA champions, it’s great to see the Spurs appreciated by one of the game’s best.
