According to spurs.com, Spurs Sports and Entertainment have named Brad Jones the new head coach for the Austin 
Toros:
“We are excited to have Brad join our organization,” said RC Buford, president of sports franchises for Spurs Sports and Entertainment. “We are confident that Brad will provide outstanding leadership and instruction for the Toros players. His coaching style will provide our fans with an outstanding experience while still focusing on the Toros main mission, which is player development.”
Jones spent the last three seasons as the head coach of the Utah Flash. He was named the head coach of the Flash on May 24, 2007. As a D-League expansion team the Flash enjoyed a successful inaugural campaign under Jones, finishing the 2007-08 season with a 24-26 mark. During the 2008-09 season the Flash posted a 32-18 record and advanced to the 2009 D-League Finals. Utah posted a 28-22 record in 2009-10, making a second straight playoff appearance. Jones was relieved of his coaching duties in July of 2010.
Jones will be replacing Quin Snyder who is now with the Philadelphia 76ers in charge of player development.
Is it really worth it to follow a D-league coach?
Not sure what you mean by following a D-League coach. We follow the Toros and he’s the new coach, so that’s why we put this up.
The Toros needed a “Name” coach, someone that can put butts in the seats… This is totally not a good selection, he might’ve taken his team to the finals last year, but it was a weak division/conference. The Toros needed somebody more like DJ, somebody w/ a name that could not only coach players, but interact w/ fans and the community. I understand the Spurs want a coach that will teach the players and get them ready for the NBA (whole point of D-League), but if you don’t have fans, then you don’t have a team. Spurs had a chance to do something big here, but instead this decision will make the Toros opening at the Cedar Park Center less than stellar. This was a very critical time for the Toros and I truly feel that this coaching decision will come back to haunt them.
P.S. Coach Jones looks like Steve “The Pirate” from the movie “Dodgeball”, especially at the end of the movie when Steve cuts his hair.
You want a “name” coach like NBA Dunk Champion Dee Brown? That wont do much. You’ll end up with a few extra fans the first couple games, then it could go all down hill. The Armor had a 7-43 record last season with the leagues leading scorer, Morris Almond. Im not saying Dee is bad coach but you don want guys saying “I hate playing for this guy” like last season
