Card Preview

If Jamal James wants to have a chance to avenge his 2016 loss to Yordenis Ugas, he’ll have to get past Butaev tonight. James is 27-1 with his sole loss coming to Ugas, and he has 12 knockouts in those 27 wins.

James holds the secondary WBA welterweight title, but he has his sights set on the main WBA belt that Ugas holds.

But the 33-year -old James can’t look past his opponent tonight. He fights a man six years his junior who has put together a solid 13-0 record with 10 knockouts.

The last time Butaev was in the ring was in December of 2020 as he scored a knockout over Terry Chatwood.

Butaev’s resume doesn’t exactly read like James’. His list of opponents does not bring up any notable opponents, whereas James has a win over undercard fighter Thomas Dulorme and Antonio DeMarco among others.

On the undercard, the veteran Dulorme will have a matchup against exciting young welterweight prospect Jaron “Boots” Ennis.

Ennis is 27-0 with 25 knockouts, so he’s capable of bringing the fireworks. His most recent win was against notable welterweight Sergey Lipinets, which ended by knockout. He also has a KO against Juan Carlos Abreu.

Dulorme has also fought a who’s who, but he has losses against some of the top 147 lb. fighters, including Terence Crawford, Ugas, James, and Stanionis.

The 31-year-old will hope to test the young lion, but Ennis is a serious contender, who wants a bigger fight next.

The opening fight features lightweight Michael Rivera against Matias Romero.
