Tonight, the Iowa Hawkeyes and Purdue Boilermakers face off for a big college basketball matchup.

This will be the first Big Ten matchup of the season and easily the biggest challenge of the young season for Iowa. The Hawkeyes survived a scare from a Virginia team that has not met expectations yet this season. Both teams are undefeated coming into this matchup and should give us an idea of how good the Big Ten can be this season.

Keegan Murray has emerged as the go-to guy for Iowa and has launched himself into the first round of many mock drafts.

Meanwhile, Purdue has a few studs as well in Jaden Ivey, Zach Edey, and Trevion Williams. It will be a matter of the Hawkeyes being able to guard those three guys as they start their conference slate.

Iowa has not played much stiff competition outside of Virginia. And even the Cavaliers are not going to be very good this season. Meanwhile, Purdue has already tested itself against the likes of UNC, Florida State, and Villanova. The Boilermakers won all of those games and they made it look easy too. You can expect Purdue to enter this game with a ton of confidence.

Here’s what Iowa has going for it though; they are a top-10 free throw percentage team, they average the most points per game in the country, and are a top-15 field goal percentage team as well. You could argue that those numbers are a bit pumped up due to the lack of competition, but it is still impressive seven games into the season.

The biggest issue that Iowa will face — and frankly every team that plays Purdue — is going to be guarding 7-foot-4 Zach Edey. He’s a skilled big who plays smart and just gets buckets. The Hawkeyes may not have the size or length to bother him enough and even when he’s out of the game, there’s still Trevion Williams to guard. He’s a bulldozer in the post and doesn’t give the defense any breaks.
