The Washington Huskies Gymnastics Team is set to host the NCAA Regionals in Seattle today at 3 PM CT. The Huskies earned their trip to the postseason after a strong performance at the Pac-12 Championships where they scored 196.400 giving them a national qualifying score of 196.550. When asked how she felt about hosting Washington Head Coach Jen Llewellyn said, “I’m super excited for the matchup,”… “There are four different conferences being represented, it is really exciting for our student-athletes and for the fans. But for us, we are looking at it as just another meet. We know what we are up against, but it is an amazing opportunity to get to see different conferences.” when asked about how her team feels going into the tournament she said, “My biggest overarching message to them is to just enjoy this moment,” said Llewellyn. “Not every team gets to make it to the postseason, so I want them to just really enjoy what they are doing and allow themselves to be fully in every moment.”

Alabama enters today’s regionals ranked 5th and making its 39th consecutive regionals appearance since its inception in 1982 except for 2020 due to Covid. When asked about the regionals today Alabama head coach Dana Duckworth said, “Literally every single step along the way this season has prepared us for what we’re about to encounter here in Seattle on Thursday and Saturday. This is a great meet and we’re ready to put it all out there and earn the opportunity to enjoy the final chapter of our season at the NCAA Championships in Fort Worth, Texas.”

Returning to regionals for the first time since 2016 is the Michigan State Spartans. They earned their way to today’s regionals by putting forth a strong second-place showing at the Big Ten Championships on March 19, 2022, scoring their highest championship score in school history 197.050. The Spartans are looking for another strong performance from Freshman Skyla Schulte who finished fifth overall in the all-around with a score of 39.5000.

BYU Cougars will round off the competition for session 1 today after fishing 4th at the Mountian Rim Gymnastics Championships with a final score of 196.375. Senior Sadie Miner-Van Tassell led the Cougars with her career-high score of 9.950 on the vault, and the Cougars will look for her to top this score to push them into the finals.

The top two teams from each of Thursday’s sessions will compete in the regional final on Saturday starting at 7 p.m. CT, with the top two teams advancing to the national championships.
