Women’s Basketball Elite 8 Game – Louisville vs Michigan Preview
After winning their Sweet 16 game against South Dakota 52-49 giving them their first-ever Elite 8 berth Saturday night, the Michigan Wolverines Women’s Basketball team will face 1 seed Louisville. In a tournament all about redemption for Michigan after being eliminated in the Big Ten Tournament Quarter-Final 76-73 against Nebraska, reflecting on Saturday night’s win and what it means after the Big Ten Tournament upset Michigan Head Coach Kim Barnes Arico said “… the moment that we had today is never going to go away. We’re still playing. There are eight darn teams left in the country playing and we are one of them.”

As the Wolverines look to tonight’s game they will also have to avenge the Cardinals for their blow-out 48-70 loss on December 2, 2021, a game where the Wolverines only had 15 first-half points. When asked about the rematch both teams seem to have the game out of their minds Louisville’s Chelsie Hall said, “That game is in the past. They’ve grown, they’ve gotten better from that game,” and Barnes Arico had this to say about the game, “We learned a lot from that game about us and what we needed to get better at, and we had to learn how to be a top team in the country, and I think we took a lot from that game for sure.”
In the win against South Dakota Wolverines Naz Hillmon led them to victory with 17 points 10 rebounds and 6 offensive rebounds so all eyes will be on her to lead to their first Final Four appearance.
1 seed Louisville enjoyed a 12 point win over Tennessee 76-64 to give them their Elite 8 berth, and are hoping to make it back to the Final Four for the first time since 2018. In the game against Tennessee Hailey Van Lith and Emily Engstler combined for 43 points and will look for repeat performances to secure their spot in Minneapolis. If Louisville advances to the championship game they’ll be fighting for the women’s team’s first national championship giving tonight’s game some extra weight with potential school history in the balance.
