Kayla Harrison vs. Taylor Guardado Fight Preview
In the night’s main event, Kayla Harrison will look to win the women’s lightweight tournament and the $1 million prize for the second time in what could be the final fight of her PFL career.
Harrison takes on Taylor Guardado in the tournament finals. Harrison is a two-time Olympic gold medalist who has been dominant since transitioning to mixed martial arts, picking up an 11-0 record with nine stoppage victories. Guardado entered the season 0-1 as a professional but has won three fights to reach the finals, where she will look to score a massive upset as a +1400 underdog.
With international restrictions still in place amidst the pandemic, the PFL featured fewer fighters in the regular season. This led to a decrease in the number of playoff rounds this year. Division sizes, of course, have also been determined by availability, which varied from class to class in the PFL’s second season in 2019. The impact on the athletes should be a positive one, entering the championship round more fresh and healthy.
The headlines to the 2021 PFL World Championship fight card are reigning champions in Harrison and Cooper. They each see post reached the final with 2-1 records this season. Coincidentally, both of the top contenders in Harrison and Cooper’s respective divisions were unable to compete in the playoff round.
