IMPACT! Bound for Glory World Championship Preview

The matter of the IMPACT! World Title seemed to be settled for the time being last month when Christian Cage defeated Ace Austin with the Killswitch. Getting the finish took multiple attempts as the younger Ace avoided the full count at two time and time again. A longtime veteran of the ring, Cage finally earned the title over 14 years after he competed in the belt’s inaugural match in 2007 along with Kurt Angle and Sting for the then-named “NWA World Heavyweight Championship”, according to the title’s Wiki. Now, three-time X-Division champion Josh Alexander wants to come and take it from him.

After successfully claiming the X-Division Championship in April at Rebellion against TJP and the aforementioned Austin, Alexander successfully defended it last month at Victory Road from Chris Sabin. At the conclusion of the evening, Alexander vacated his title, enacting “Option C”, an X-Division champion’s right to relinquish the title for an opportunity at the IMPACT World Title. It all goes down this Saturday at Bound for Glory.

IMPACT! Bound for Glory Title Matches Preview

The IMPACT World Championship isn’t the only title match on the card. Ahead of the television event, the vacant IMPACT Digital Media Champion will be decided on YouTube. Additionally, four other titles are also being featured in the pay-per-view. Deonna Purrazzo looks to once again defend her IMPACT Knockouts Title that she claimed last year at IMPACT! Emergence in the first-ever Knockouts 30 Minute Iron Man Match against Jordynne Grace. That fight currently ranks as the third-best IMPACT Knockout Title Match. Her latest challenger, the veteran Mickie James, knows what it takes to be Knockouts Champion, having held the title a number of times herself. Her 2011 title fight against Gail Kim is seven spots behind Purrazzo’s title match on the all-time-best list, ranking tenth.

In the ring for Alexander’s vacant X-Division Championship are Steve Maclin, El Phantasmo, and Trey Miguel in a three-way bout for the title. The final two titles on the line are the IMPACT World Tag Team Championship and the IMPACT Knockouts Tag Team Championship, currently held by The Good Brothers and the team of Havok & Rosemary respectively.  On the women’s side, Cassie Lee and Jessie McKay are making their IMPACT debut in the title match. Meanwhile, The Good Brothers have to deal with a pair of teams in FinJuice (David Finlay and Juice Robinson) and the Bullet Club (Chris Bey and Hikuleo) after the two teams simultaneously pinfalled each other in their contention match in August.
