AMA Supercross Round 7

Race fans who love bikes are in for an amazing weekend with MotoGP, the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship, and the Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) Championships all going on. The latter two, Supercross and the GNCC, share the stage in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Saturday, February 19, 2022, as the GNCC season gets underway, and the 250SX East division starts too. In the 450SX  class, Eli Tomac will look to hold onto his first-place position as the field behind him is in a tight race from second through fifth place.

It’s a freezing day in Minnesota but under the roof of U.S. Bank Stadium, the competition is just heating up. After consecutive wins at Anaheim 2 and Glendale, Tomac finished the opening West Coast leg of the season with a second-place finish on the third trip to Angels Stadium. A rider for Monster Energy / Star Yamaha, Tomac was the 2020 AMA Supercross 450SX champion.

As the 450s continue their season, the 250SX West pauses theirs for five weeks while the East takes to the track ahead of the clash between the best in the class this spring. Per, Jett Lawrence, the younger brother of the West’s Hunter Lawrence should be a favorite to claim multiple wins. A rising talent, he had his first three main event wins last season, all at 250. Lawrence will look to hold off the competitor with the most wins entering the season, however, in Austin Forkner. While not winning a main event last year, he has 11 victories on his resume, which helped him finish third in the 2020 Monster Energy Championships. He fell to seventh place last season.
