The San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat have different personnel and characters on their teams, but one thing that can't be denied is that they play a similar style on the basketball court.
We'll be seeing some of that Sunday when the Miami Heat visit the AT&T Center, but don't think that Heat's LeBron James is unaware of the similarities either.
"We play similar games, I know that," James said, as he looked ahead to Sunday's game at the AT&T Center. "And the fact is that we move the ball, and it's like no pressure on anyone to have to score. It's all about getting the best shot.
"We work our offense and we're very patient and then see what happens. So we have some similarities for sure." (Sun-Sentinal.com)
The Spurs have always been a team that plays unselfishly and it doesn't matter who has the ball. That's what made the Spurs a threat and a championship team for many years and the Heat have found that formula last season and this one also. When Miami's "Big 3" of James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh signed with the team, they tried to dominate with one on one games over having a team aspect.
Now with a more San Antonio Spur-like mentality on the court, they were able to pull off an impressive 27-game win streak this season and are now preparing themselves for repeating as NBA champions in June.
If the two teams were to meet in the grandest stage in professional basketball in the playoffs, it'll be a great series to watch with two teams with the exact same game playing against each other.
The Spurs will have Tony Parker and Tim Duncan on Sunday but will be without Manu Ginobili (sprained right hamstring), however, this game may be a preview of what we can expect and how the two systems compare against each other.
After all, the Spurs almost did beat the Heat during "Rest Gate" with role players, primarily because of the same system the Heat are trying to mirror.
