Ever since the San Antonio Spurs were embarrassed by the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round of the 2011 NBA playoffs, the Spurs have been on a mission against the Grizzlies.
Especially Spurs point guard Tony Parker.
He's responded with tough play ever since TV analysts raved about Mike Conley out "Tony Parkering" Tony Parker in the playoffs a few seasons ago and Conley has taken notice.
"Tony Parker is one of the best in the league. He's definitely tough to guard and keep out of the paint. He got me in foul trouble so it was very tough to guard him. I thought I did my best trying to make him take tough shots, just unfortunately it wasn't enough."
In the Spurs' win over the Grizzlies, Conley finished with 18 points and 12 assists in 41 minutes of play while Parker notched 30 points and six assists in 43 minutes of play. Clearly, TP won the indivudual battle and the game but with the way these two teams are playing in the season, it won't be a surprise to see these two guards matched up again in the playoffs.
And if 2011 is still in Parker's head, he'll look to outplay Conley when it counts.
