Greg Oden Suffers Setback in Heat practice

A few months back, a portion of San Antonio Spurs fan base was disappointed that center Greg Oden choose not to sign with the silver and black despite his chronic knee issues which have, for the most part, derailed his NBA career.

Well it appears that San Antonio may have dodged a bullet.

Courtesy of Brian Windhorst of the Miami Heat Index comes news that Oden experienced a “slight setback” due to swelling in his left knee during Heat practice.

"This has been three years for me, as long as it's no surgery, it's OK," said Oden, who last played in an NBA game in 2009. "This is going to be a long season, I'm going to get there."

via foxsportsflorida.comThe Heat’s glaring need for a legitimate big man made the team add Oden and shore up their front court is what spurred on this signing but maybe it was done in haste.

While the Heat may give Oden a better chance to win a ring on the surface, but should he have more setbacks, then he might see himself riding the bench as he has for most of his NBA career.

With the Spurs' current depth at the center position, Oden could have returned to the floor when he was completely ready considering Tim Duncan, Tiago Splitter and Jeff Ayres could hold down the fort.

The presence of Tony Parker, Kawhi Leonard, Duncan and Danny Green would give the Spurs enough fire power to allow Oden the ability to focus on dominating the defensive end. Whereas a departure of one of the big three in Miami would lead to Oden being asked to carry a large share of the offensive load which his knees may never allow him to do.

Granted the injury is said to be not serious but it does make you wonder if the Spurs got out of a situation of dealing with Oden's health issues.

So Spurs’ fans, do you think the Spurs dodged a bullet?
