Green considering Slovenia?

DGFile this under “we’ll see” but here you go.

With what looks like a long lockout in the making, San Antonio Spurs’ Danny Green has been muling his options from overseas.

At the beginning of the month, our own Jeff Garcia talked to Green in New York at a charity basketball game. Green told Garcia any offer he would consider from overseas would have to have an opt out clause because he wants to return to the NBA when the lockout ends. Thus was a main reason why he didn’t sign with the Greek club Olympiakos. One interesting thing Green told Garcia in the interview was the only news he receives on the lockout is from the online world.

Earlier today, Green tweeted a link of an article stating that the NBA season could be lost. Four hours later, Green tweeted this:

Say it aint so! Ur boy might b play wit the bro @DeThompson9 out in Slovenia….ha! Sh*t jus got real…

Former North Carolina Tar Heel Deon Thompson is the player Green is referring to. The two played together on North Carolina’s 2009 championship team. In late July, Thompson signed a two year deal to play with the Euroleague club Union Olimpija in Slovenia.

Whether Green’s tweet was simply tounge-in-cheek remains to be seen but as the lockout keeps marching on with no end in sight, Green, like many other NBA players, could be considering to take the right deal and head overseas.
