The San Antonio Spurs closed out their “Rodeo Road Trip” with a 118-105 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies at the FedEx Forum on Monday night.

The result sees San Antonio finish the annual trek with a record of 4-4.

In case you missed it, here are three points from the Spurs’ loss to Memphis:

Too much Ja

This might be an obvious one but Ja Morant was everywhere on Monday night, making things extremely difficult for the San Antonio Spurs.

His poster dunk of Jakob Poeltl set the tone for the night as Morant poured in a career-high 52 points, including 13 consecutive points during the fourth quarter, to lead Memphis to victory.

“He makes decisions. He knows what is going on on the court, he passes the basketball, he inherently understands space, he knows where he is on the court, he knows where everybody else is and what he’s got a lane to do what he does,” Spurs Head Coach Gregg Popovich said of the Grizzlies guard.

Apart from Morant, De’Anthony Melton added 15 points for Memphis, while Tyus Jones scored 13.

Lonnie comes into his own

I did not have Lonnie Walker improving his play on my Spurs Rodeo Road Trip bingo card but that’s exactly what he’s done.

Walker led the Spurs with 22 points, and Dejounte Murray added 21 points and eight assists before being ejected late in the game. Poeltl finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

“Well, we’ll see, we’ll see,” Popovich said when asked about Walker turning the corner. “I think he has played the last three or four games really wisely.”

Chasing history

The loss on Monday left Coach Pop one game short of tying Don Nelson for the most regular-season wins by an NBA coach and two wins shy of breaking the record.

Per Project Spurs’ Paul Garcia, Pop is projected to clinch the record on March 12.

UP NEXT:
