Ginobili hopes Argentine teammate returns for sophomore season

Pablo PrigioniWhile there have been many questions about San Antonio Spurs guard Manu Ginobili’s return to San Antonio and the NBA next season, he seems to be more concerned about seeing his Argentine backcourt-mate make a return to the NBA.

Pablo Prigioni, who manned the Argentina backcourt with Ginobili well over the past decade and during Argentina’s gold medal run, was a 35-year-old rookie with the New York Knicks last season. Ginobili called Prigioni’s first season “great”.

“Terrific. Great season – 35 years old and a rookie on a team like that – he did great.,’ Ginobili said. “I think the last time he talked to the media (on Argentine radio) he was intending to get back in the league. If he wants to, he’ll be here.’’

With Jason Kidd’s retirement and transition to head coach, there is room for Prigioni to make a return for his second season in the league.

As for weather or not Ginobili will be back, he did say during the NBA Finals that he couldn’t imagine not coming back for at least one more season.
