Free Agency: Spurs, Kenyon Martin rumors continue to surface

On Wednesday, a report was released stating the San Antonio Spurs were one of five teams interested in New York Knicks free agent forward Kenyon Martin.

Now two days later, the Martin-Spurs rumors continue as Jared Zwerling of ESPN New York describes.

As discussed in the previous article, Martin is already entering the tail-end of his career and can be a decent forward in limited minutes off of the bench. He’s no longer the leaping-speedy forward that made him a one-time All-Star, but he can play established minutes as help defender and he knows how to work in the pick-and-roll.

On whether or not the Spurs can afford Martin remains to be seen because even though the team has verbal commitments from Tiago Splitter, Manu Ginobili, and Marco Belinelli, no deals or actual financial figures can be released until NBA contracts are signed beginning on July 10.

Martin is the type of veteran-player who could take less money for a chance at a championship with San Antonio, and he did just finish in New York earning $437,470.

Though the Spurs’ frontline core will be back from going all the way to Game 7 of the NBA Finals, there is a vacant position on the roster as DeJuan Blair is expected to sign elsewhere during free agency.

What do you think Spurs fans, should the Spurs look into adding Martin?
