TPAnother former San Antonio Spurs alum has his name in the news for a coaching job, this time it’s former guard Terry Porter.

After the Minnesota Timberwolves recently fired Kurt Rambis, General Manager David Kahn has some coaching candidates in mind and Porter was the first to interview (The Star Tribune) with Kahn today.

Former Timberwolves player and former Milwaukee and Portland head coach Terry Porter today is the first candidate to formally interview for the team’s head-coaching job, according to league sources.

David Kahn has made background research calls and talked by phone to at least one other candidate — Don Nelson — but Porter is the first to come to town to interview with Kahn and likely owner Glen Taylor.

Porter has had NBA head coaching stops in Milwaukee, Portland and Phoenix. His Phoenix stint was very short as he was fired four months into the season.

Porter finished off his NBA career with the San Antonio Spurs from 1999 to 2002. Though he never won a ring with the Spurs because of the Lakers’ “three-peat”, he still learned the Spurs’ defensive approach from Gregg Popovich.

Porter is currently a broadcaster in Portland for the Trail Blazers.
