Former San Antonio Spurs player and current Utah Jazz head coach Tyrone Corbin has been given the keys to his hometown of Columbia, South Carolina.
The Columbia, S.C., City Council announced today that it will honor local sports hero and current Utah Jazz head coach Tyrone Corbin with a proclamation and will present him with a key to the city during its city council meeting on Tuesday, July 19 at 4 p.m. MT. The meeting and presentation will be held at Columbia’s City Hall (1737 Main Street) and will recognize Corbin’s achievements throughout his athletic career.
Corbin was drafted by the Spurs in the second round of the 1985 NBA draft with the 35th pick. He played in San Antonio from the start of 85′ to the end of 1987.
Corbin was given the head coaching job in Utah after tenured Hall of Fame coach Jerry Sloan retired in the middle of last season. Corbin is being acknowledged for his accomplishments with education and athletics.
“Tyrone Corbin is a shining example of a scholarly athlete who successfully merged his talent with his education to propel him into the highest ranks among the National Basketball Association. We are proud of his accomplishments and his story is a great model for the young people of our community,” stated At-Large Councilwoman Tameika Isaac-Devine.”
