Former Austin Spurs in NBA Summer League

With the third day of Summer League in the books, it’s the perfect time to catch up with some notable NBA Developmental League alumni who have recently donned the silver and black.

You can find any and all things about the various Summer League camps going on here, but let’s take a more in-depth look at the former Austin Spurs who are attempting to find their way to the big show.

Kyle Anderson
With the recent acquisitions of LaMarcus Aldridge and David West, the San Antonio Spurs need to fill out their roster with guys already under contract or veterans willing to take the minimum. Enter second year player, Kyle Anderson, who can secure a roster spot in San Antonio with a nice Utah Summer League performance.

Anderson’s first game on Monday night wasn’t the best start to his summer, as he shot 2-for-9 from the field. But he did still manage eight points, nine rebounds and two assists in 27 minutes of action, attacking the basket at will. We’ll see if he can work the kinks out of his newly tweaked jumpshot on Tuesday night.

Bryce Cotton
The one that got away. No doubt that Cotton would be the perfect replacement for Cory Joseph in San Antonio, but alas. The 6-foot-1 point guard came off the bench for the Jazz in Monday night’s blowout victory over the Celtics. Cotton had 11 points, three rebounds and an assist in 20 minutes, shooting a perfect 2-for-2 from three and 3-for-3 from the line.

Jarell Eddie
After spending 10 days with the Atlanta Hawks last season, Eddie has found his way onto the Pacers Las Vegas Summer League roster and is starting at the two-guard spot for Indiana. In his first game, Eddie showed off his range scoring 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting, while pulling down five boards in 21 minutes of action versus the Heat. He’s averaging 12 points and three rebounds in two games so far.

Jonathon Simmons
Simmons is a veteran with the Austin Spurs, having started for the silver and black the last two seasons. And he seems to have finally caught a break, latching on with the Brooklyn Nets summer league roster. In 30 minutes of playing time, Simmons filled the stat sheet in both good and bad ways. His 13 points were the second highest total on the team. He also managed six rebounds and three assists, but committed six fouls and five turnovers in Sunday’s 71-70 loss to the Miami Heat.
