SALT LAKE CITY – With 15 seconds remaining, Bryn Forbes found himself open in the corner and nailed a 3-pointer to give the Austin Spurs a two point lead.

Just an hour before the Forbes’ game-winner, in San Antonio, Manu Ginobili missed the potential game-winning 3-pointer from the exact same location in a loss to the Milwaukee Bucks.

It was one of the few nights this season in which the Austin Spurs pulled out a victory when the San Antonio Spurs couldn’t, as the D-League silver and black defeated the Salt Lake City Stars, 104-102.

Forbes finished with 26 points, two rebounds and three assists, but Cory Jefferson would be the catalyst in Austin’s victory as he dominated the paint. Jefferson finished with a team-high 27 points to go along with seven rebounds in 34 minutes. Charles Garcia had a stellar performance off the bench with 14 points and eight rebounds.

Five players for the Stars finished in double figures, led by 29 points from Tyrone Wallace. Michale Kyser notched a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds in 30 minutes. NBA veteran Sundiata Gaines had 14 points, six assists and four steals for Salt Lake City, while North Carolina product Marcus Paige had 13 points. Jeremy Williams had 12 points in 19 minutes off the bench.

Austin gained control early leading by as much as 15 points, before the Stars closed the quarter on a 7-0 run.

Paige continued the Stars potent offense heading into the second quarter, giving Salt Lake City a four point lead, before the Spurs regained control and went into halftime up 52-48.

The Spurs would go up double digits early in the third quarter before Stars guard Wallace went full flamethrower to tie the game at 80 heading into the final 12 minutes.

Salt Lake City maintained a lead late into the fourth quarter before the duo of Forbes and Jefferson regained the lead for Austin. After Forbes’ 3-pointer to take the lead, Patricio Garino’s rim protection skill on the ensuing possession sealed the victory for the Spurs.

Up next for the Austin Spurs (9-13) is a date with the Reno Bighorns (8-13) tonight at 9 p.m. CST from the Reno Events Center.
