Fisher still on Spurs’ radar, Mills deal still not done

Derek FisherAccording to ESPN, the San Antonio Spurs still have an interest in veteran point guard Derek Fisher, who was bought out by the Houston Rockets.

The San Antonio Spurs, sources told Stein, have not yet ruled out pursuing Fisher because their planned signing of former Portland Trail Blazers guard Patty Mills has been held up by the fact that Portland has not yet renounced rights to Mills.

With the Spurs needing another point guard on the roster after T.J. Ford retired, Fisher would prove more than adequate to back up Tony Parker. However, he would be a liability on defense should he and Gary Neal man the backcourt for the Spurs’ second unit.

But unlike Mills, Fisher is a proven NBA veteran, a champion, a professional, and can hit a clutch shot as all Spurs fans know all too well.

Fisher would also give the Spurs a steady, reliable backup that has played point guard his entire career, instead of forcing a shooting guard (Neal) to take over the position or hand the reins over to a 19-year old rookie in Cory Joseph,

The biggest question is how Spurs fans would react in bringing in the player that has been public enemy number one for hitting that 0.4 shot, killing the Spurs’ hopes for a championship repeat in 2004. However, Robert Horry was also a Spurs rival before he was embraced as a Spur for several years.

What do you have to say Spurs fans? Would you rather see San Antonio have Mills or Fisher?
