The 2011-12 NBA season is going nowhere and fast. After a seven-hour session between the NBA and the player’s association, Commissioner David Stern announced that the first two weeks of the season have been cancelled.
Stern told the Associated Press that both sides are very far apart still even after several days of negotiations.
Stern, Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver, owners Peter Holt of San Antonio, Glen Taylor of Minnesota and James Dolan of New York, and senior vice president and deputy general counsel Dan Rube met with union executive director Billy Hunter, president Derek Fisher of the Lakers and vice president Maurice Evans of the Wizards, and attorneys Jeffrey Kessler and Ron Klempner.
For the San Antonio Spurs, that now means their home opener on November 2nd at the AT&T Center is now a thing of the past, as is an early November game against state rivals and 2011 NBA Champion Dallas Mavericks.
If no other games are cancelled, the Spurs will open at home on November 16 against the Los Angeles Clippers.
