Before the Spurs vs. Nuggets series started, I broke down each positional matchup and gave a huge edge to Allen Iverson over Michel Finley at shooting guard. Boy was I dead wrong.
Finley went on to have a great series, shooting 46 percent from the field and 52 percent from beyond the arc for 16 points a game. Iverson had a dismal first series as a Nugget, shooting 36 percent from the field and often drawing a mix of different defenders including Bruce Bowen, Tony Parker and Jacque Vaughn.
Finley’s eight 3-pointers broke Bowen’s previous playoff record and helped lead the Spurs past the Nuggets in a closeout game five.
Phoenix also ended up finishing off the Lakers last night setting up a meeting between the Spurs and the Suns for the Western Conference semifinals.
