Main Event Preview

When looking at the tale of the tape for this contest, the first thing that stands out is the age factor. With nearly a 10-year difference between Fierro (24) and Estela (33), a passer-by analysis might give the preview of “experience vs youth”. With regards to these two athletes, that is far from the case.

Fierro (20-1-2, 16 KO) is a talent on the rise in the lightweight division, and has been a professional in Mexico since his mid-teens. While his career up through 2019 featured wins over athletes with a negative win-to-loss ration, Fierro has upped his competition since then, and it has carried. In 2021, he claimed the then-vacant WBO NABO lightweight title in a contest with Alberto Machado who was 22-2-0 at the time, doing so by TKO in Round 6. In his two contests since then, only one has gone the distance, a mixed decision victory over former super featherweight contender Juan Carlos Burgos.

Estela (14-1-0, 9 KO) actually enters Saturday night as the lesser-experienced participant, despite being older. Since debuting in 2016, he too has raised the standard for his opponents, and has settled in after a rocky start. Estela is on a four-fight winning streak going into his bout with Fierro, taking three by TKO and most recently earning a split decision over the then-undefeated Ruben Torres in November.
