Fan Post: What’s with the Spurs’ offseason focus on guards?

0
There was a lot of talk last year about the San Antonio Spurs carrying seven guards into the season. This offseason already looks to be the same in that regard. The only real difference being Gary Neal was replaced by Marco Belinelli.

As the gloom that resulted from the Spurs' finals loss faded this summer, news started to emerge the Spurs were either working out or interested in even more guards. So what gives? Speculation abounds.

Is the front office unconvinced that Cory Joseph can step into the backup point guard position? That is certainly possible even though Cory seemed to respond pretty well when given the spot nearing the end of last year.

There are also ideas floating around that the front office may be considering some sort of trade involving one or more current Spurs' guards, and that is why players like Mike Bibby, Sebastian Telfair and even Royal Ivey have been linked to San Antonio recently.

What I have gleaned from the many opinions I have read this summer about this subject is that just about everyone thinks something strange is afoot.

All the small forwards being linked to the Spurs this summer were expected by virtually everyone considering the team does have a glaring need at the position behind Kawhi Leonard. And that further deepens the mystery of Spurs summer guard watch version 2013.

What say you Spurs fans? Are you in the befuddled group, or are you certain that you know what is happening in the minds of the vaunted Spurs' brass?
