When Tim Duncan signed his contract extension with the San Antonio Spurs over the summer, everyone knew he would take whatever money the team offered
Duncan signed on for three more years with the team, with an option for the final year, but it might not have been worth as much as we originally thought.
“Tim Duncan’s new three-year deal with the Spurs isn’t for $36 million, as was first widely reported. According to numbers provided by the NBA Players Association, he will earn $30 million, with the third year, at $10 million, at the future Hall of Famer’s option.”
The final number probably didn’t make that much of a difference to a guy who has already made millions and millions of dollars over his long and successful NBA career. Tim Duncan is the ultimate team player and every Spurs fan in the world wanted to see him retire on his own terms with the silver and black.
If Duncan keeps playing as well as he is now, we may see him use all three years on his extension. He’s shown repeatedly that the hands of time don’t seem to affect him. Hey, in two years we may even be talking about another extension.
