Diaw happy in San Antonio, even on Parker’s couch

Newly-acquired San Antonio Spurs forward Boris Diaw was a guest on Tony Parker’s radio show yesterday and talked about everything from going to one of the worst teams in the league to playing for a championship contender (via RMC Sport).

It’s going great. I’m happy to be in San Antonio. It is nice and it was a great team.We had to find a deal with Charlotte. From there, I knew it would be fast. There were several teams. It was a difficult choice because you never know as we will adapt. I thought it was with San Antonio that it would be easier to adapt.

Apparently Diaw, who has been a very good friend of Parker’s since childhood, looked to Parker to provide a warm bed when his Spurs debut included a back-to-back-to-back.

He threw me on the couch! We agreed. He is home and I pay the meals outside. I chose the team, not just because I want to play with my friend.

Aside from being “thrown on the couch,” which I’m sure is a slight exaggeration, Diaw said he is learning on the job and hasn’t had much time to learn the Spurs’ systems, although France runs many of the same plays.

He also said Spurs coach Gregg Popovich was interested in him because of his versatility and ability to be creative while defending well.
