Since arriving on the scene, San Antonio Spurs rookie guard Nando De Colo has made an immediate impression on the court. He can pass on a dime, run the floor, knock down the outside shot and has shown poise in San Antonio's preseason matchups. Because of this, and especially his passing ability, many see a bit of another foreign import on the Spurs roster in De Colo's style of play – Manu Ginobili.
Manu chimed in on the comparison between himself and Nando and agrees, there's a bit of a similarity.
"There are some things that you can see something as similar," Ginobili said. "The fancy passes and stuff like that. We try to add a little spice on the basketball court. But for sure he's more of a point guard than me. He's more pass first than a scorer. I kind of like scoring. But for sure he's a good player. I don't think we need to be comparing. It's not really going to help."
Ginobili also has been amazed and impressed at De Colo's passing ability and overall game so far in training camp.
"We're all surprised at his skills and how easy it is for him to find tough passes. How he sees everything. He still got a lot of time to adjust, to get better, to understand who we are, who Pop (Popovich) is, and the league and everything like we all did. But for sure he's got talent."
Let's face it, there may never be another player like Ginobili but De Colo does have a long road ahead of him if he ever wants to reach the levels Manu has reached in his NBA career. Nando has the foundation, the skill-set, and mental ability to succeed in the NBA. And with Ginobili there to help guide him, then De Colo's future in the NBA is bright.
However, with both Ginobili and De Colo on the squad, Spurs fans will be looking forward to plenty of highlight worthy plays in the regular season.
