De Colo discusses recent visit with the Spurs

French guard Nando De Colo recently was in San Antonio to meet with the Spurs to a undergo routine physical before he left to France to prepare for the 2012 Olympic Games.

The 2009 NBA draftee spoke about his visit with the Spurs and says it was a rather brief visit but did reiterate the Spurs told him they have a roster spot for him.

“It happened very quickly. It was a bit like the FNT (French National Team) at first meeting with Les Blues. Medical tests, pretty basic, nothing very important, and I left the next day. It was more for tests and I do not need to return. It’s been several months but they say there’s a place for me with the team but there are other decisions needed to be made about the team.  But we’re still negotiating.”

Seems pretty set in stone De Colo will be a Spur next season. And although he is not going to play for the Spurs’ Summer League team, playing in the London Games against the best basketball talent in the world will only further his development. Not to mention, the French team runs a similar system as the Spurs and playing with Spurs’ Tony Parker and Boris Diaw will also help his transition into the NBA.

De Colo scored 13 points and grabbed three rebounds against Great Britain in a recent tuneup game before the Olympics.
