The San Antonio Spurs announced yesterday that they had reassigned Nando De Colo to the D-League Austin Toros, but it was a short-lived trip.
De Colo and the Toros beat the Idaho Stampede 97-82 last night in Austin. De Colo played 38 minutes and had 14 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.
Today, De Colo is being recalled back to the Spurs.
After a very impressive showing in what’s now infamously known as the “Restgate game” against the Miami Heat where he had 15 points, six rebounds and five assists in 34 minutes, De Colo looked like he could be a big contributor to the Spurs going forward. It’s possible the team just wanted to get him a little more experience or work on a specific aspect of his game in Austin.
De Colo is averaging 10.4 minutes per game for the Spurs on the season, but if he keeps improving, that number should go up.
The Spurs don’t play again until Wednesday, so we’ll have to wait a couple of days to see if De Colo’s role on the team changes after his brief stint with the Toros.
