As we reported two days ago, San Antonio Spurs’ Danny Green had tweeted that he was thinking about playing in Slovenia.
Well, it’s official. The Spurs have just lost their first player under contract due to the NBA lockout. Green has announced via his Twitter page that he will be playing in Slovenia during the lockout.

As Green told our own Jeff Garcia at the beginning of the month, he would only play overseas if he signed a contract that had an opt out clause to return to the NBA.
It seems Green will be playing with Euroleague club Union Olimpija in Slovenia. They are the team that his former Tar Heel teammate Deon Thompson recently signed with.
Green was set to make $884,293 thousand in the 2011-12′ season with the Spurs. The problem was that his deal was a non-guaranteed contract. This meant he had to wait until after December to know whether or not he would stay a Spur.
Now with the lockout in full swing, Green still isn’t getting a paycheck in the NBA and he will be making a good amount of cash in Slovenia. Once the lockout ends and Green returns to the NBA, it’s unknown whether the Spurs will want to give him another chance.
Green leaves for Slovenia next Saturday.
