Thursday a photographer on Instagram with the username CreativeNLB5 released a few photos from the Spurs’ summer workouts before training camp begins later next month.
In the photos, a few current Spurs players like Rudy Gay, Dejounte Murray, Bryn Forbes, and DeMar DeRozan appear, while Spurs legends Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili also appear along with Head Coach Gregg Popovich.
Interestingly, two players not on the Spurs roster (yet) that appear to be working out with the team are unrestricted free agents Josh McRoberts and Josh Huestis.

McRoberts, a 31-year old 6’10” big man has spent time with seven NBA teams throughout his career. He only appeared in two games with the Dallas Mavericks last season before being waived in February.
He’s battled injury issues over his career and the last time he played more than 50 games in a season was during the 2013-14 season with the Charlotte Hornets. He’s a floor spacing big man when the opportunity and minutes are provided.
Huestis has spent the last three seasons in Oklahoma City since being drafted by the Thunder with the 29th pick in the 2014 NBA draft. Per 36 minutes, the 6’7″ Huestis was projected to average 5.8 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks if given that amount of time on the floor last season.
Right now, it’s still uncertain if these two players are just working out with the Spurs or if their names will be listed on the training camp roster next month when it’s released.
With the pending signing of Chimezie Metu, the Spurs will have 14 players on guaranteed contracts. Quincy Pondexter has a partially guaranteed contract which puts the roster at 15 players.
If McRoberts and Huestis are indeed training camp invites, the Spurs’ roster would be up to 17 players, with three additional roster spots available for training camp.
Before the first game of the regular season, the roster must be trimmed to no more than two two-way players and 15 full NBA roster players.
