Carter, Butch in for workouts next week

Warren CarterThe San Antonio Spurs are bringing in two big men next week whose surnames together make up the name of a former NBA player and coach.

Brian Butch and Warren Carter will work to make a name for themselves in their professional basketball careers as Butch Carter did, and for them, they likely see the Spurs as a place that could take them there.

According to Keith Kreiter of Edge Sports International, a sports management company, said that Carter, a 6-9 Illinois grad with a bevy of international experience and a stint with the New York Knocks, will be in town next Tuesday and Wednesday. Kreiter noted on Twitter that Carter has played very well overseas the last few years.

Last year, the Dallas native averaged eight points and five rebounds per game for Dexia Mons-Hainaut. In two games against a Deron Williams-lead Besiktas team, Carter averaged 10 points and 7.5 rebounds in 27 minutes per game.

Entering the NBA Draft, he was considered a great athlete with good shot-blocking ability, but needed to improve in a few areas. The Spurs will get a chance to see where he's at next week. Oh and by the way, if he makes it to training camp, Spurs fans should know, according to Sham Sports, Carter's nickname is "bucket of hair." I'm sure Spurs fans can improve that.

Brian ButchBrian Butch is a 6-11 center who has also had some international experience but has played in the D-League the last few years.

Butch actually appeared on the cover of a Sports Illustrated college basketball preview issue and was highly-touted in college but went undrafted.

Last year, Butch averaged 15.3 points, 9.8 rebounds in just over 27 minutes per game, but his numbers went up across the board in the playoffs.

Butch, seems to be just the opposite of Carter. Butch is not very athletic, but he's a big body down low that can create some space and grab rebounds, but I wouldn't count on him to help much in the blocked shots area.

While Carter is more intriguing to me, I can see the Spurs possibly brining Butch into training camp because of his college resume and because he was considered a better prep prospect than Chris Paul and want to say what they can get out of him.
