Yesterday while at the NBA Draft combine in Chicago, San Antonio Spurs General Manager R.C. Buford spoke about the surfaced Tony Parker comments from France.
“Who knows what the motivation is to say something like that,” Buford said. “I’m not going to get caught up in comments. All I can say is that we’re going to continue to build our team and try to be as good as we can be in the future.”
Mike Monroe of the San Antonio Express News has the full scoop.
Buford understands that Parker’s comments are apt to spawn another round of trade speculation.
“I can’t control that,” he said, “and I’m not going to worry about it. We’re just going to move forward and work to improve the team.”
It’s interesting to see how Parker’s comments on Wednesday have ignited: the media, fans, and now, even upper management is aware.
After reading various sites, the media perceives it as: a.) Parker being honest and “realistic.” Or b.) Maybe he’s throwing his name out there to get trade rumors swirling (which he has done now).
I’ve spoken with some Spurs fans and they seem to be separated in the “Trade Parker” or “Support Parker” camps.
The biggest perception that none of us can see, but will be interesting to learn about down the road is how the Spurs’ upper management is “really” viewing these comments behind closed doors?
Do they feel it’s time to look into some trade options involving Parker? Since Parker is actually out there on the floor, do they really need to face a reality in which he proclaims they’re not a title contender?
What do you think Spurs fans about Buford’s comments? Was he just being honest? Or is there more to it in your opinion?
