The origins of boxing date back to 3000 B.C. according to the sport’s overview page on the Olympics’ website. In the early days of boxing’s presence in The Games, soft leather was worn by the athletes for some form of protection, long before the development of the boxing gloves, or even those worn today in MMA. Bare-knuckle fighting has long existed in society, and continues with the minimal protection of those early days, living on today in the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC).

BKFC 22 Miami: Main Card Fight Preview

Two knockout fighters in Lombard (3-0-0) and Hunt (5-1-0) are entering the ring on Friday night in Miami for the BKFC Cruiserweight Championship. Both fighters are coming off of wins at BKFC 18 this summer.

A bout between two former MMA fighters, Lombard had the more successful career of the two in the sport. Now 43 years old, Lombard made his professional fighting debut in 2004 at Spartan Reality Fight (SRF) 11. Taking action wherever he could get it to climb the ranks, he fought in his first title match in 2006 in the Xtreme Fighting Championships (XFC) at XFC 10. Lombard also fought in the Cage Fighting Championships (CFC) and Bellator (BFC), earning championships at both stops. From 2012 – 2018, he fought in the UFC, never earning a title shot. He lost his last six fights in the UFC, finishing his MMA career with a 34-10-1 record.

Moving to bare-knuckle boxing in 2020, Lombard is undefeated through three career fights. The 5’9” southpaw will have a good challenge in his opponent Hunt on Friday night. Hunt measures in at 6’0” and will have a four-inch reach advantage in addition to being four years younger.

Hunt made his amateur MMA debt in 2013 and turned professional fighting in the cage of the Real Fighting Championships (RFC) in 2015. Not finding success there, he turned to the BKFC in 2019, debuting with a victory at BKFC 8. His 5-1 BKFC record is much different than his 3-5 MMA record, and he looks to keep the trend rolling against Lombard.
