2022 USFL Season Opener: Birmingham Stallions vs New Jersey Generals Preview

Tonight’s crowd will be heavily supporting the Stallions but the Generals have quite a bit of experience on their side. Fans should prepare for the first week’s games to be all defense. It generally takes offenses a few games to find their rhythm. The Generals starting quarterback Luis Perez hopes to bring stability on the offensive and build upon his AAF and XFL experience. XFL fans from Seattle will recognize Generals Head Coach Mike Riley, he was the Dragon’s offensive coordinator. Mike Weber from the 2020 Superbowl Champion Chiefs will be the primary running back for the Generals. Weber has a lot to prove as he fights his way back to the NFL so look for him to be a making moves tonight. The first weeks of USFL will likely see a lot of run plays, expect Weber to have many opportunities to shine tonight.

Former Louisiana Tech Head Coach Skip Holtz helms the Stallions. Alex McGough will be the starting quarterback for the stallions after bouncing around a few NFL teams. McGough never got a chance to break out in the NFL but he does have an arm on him. Look for McGough to make a few big plays tonight to ignite the home crowd. On Defense look for big stops from linebacker Scooby Wright. Wright received several national awards during his Junior year at Arizona but has not been able to find success since. Wright has a ton to prove on the field and looks to make a name for himself in the USFL.
