The Austin Spurs will be heading south of the border on Friday, December 16th to take on the Mexico City Capitanes. Austin (5-10) was able to break its six-game losing streak last Sunday by beating the Capitanes (9-6) in front of over 4,000 fans in a special game in Laredo. It was a massive relief for Spurs fans as the funk they were in was finally over and the team hopped back in the win column.

Mexico City will now look to exact revenge on Austin, and look to continue a decent start to the season. If the Spurs can win back-to-back against a top quality team like the Capitanes, this could be the start of an impressive run that the team really needs. Tip-off for Friday’s game is at 7:00 p.m. CST.

Austin Spurs Preview

The Spurs were able to snap a six-game losing streak that handed them some pretty tough losses. Last Sunday, however, proved to finally be Austin’s day, as they were able to secure the win against Mexico City. The usual star performer for Austin, Chaundee Brown Jr., was at it again with 22 points and four rebounds. Jordan Murphy had a big night off the bench, totaling 26 points, 16 rebounds, and five assists in 28 minutes. Guard Tommy Kuhse also had a good night off the bench with 20 points. His contribution proved to be vital.

This was a performance that should remind Austin fans from the beginning of the season, when the Spurs were able to get wins from complete team production. This has proved to be a winning formula that has helped them picked up wins, and now they will be hoping to continue this method as the Showcase Cup progresses.

Mexico City Capitanes Preview

One of the best teams in the league so far this season, the Capitanes like have a sour taste in their mouths and have had a few days to think about the loss to Austin. Former first-round pick Jahlil Okafor had 20 points while guard Mason Jones contributed 28 points and eight assists. Jones has been a standout for the internationally based team this season, and looks to really control the offense.

The key for Mexico City is to get the ball into the hands of Jones and let him make things “click”. Austin will really have to try and limit his production if they are hopeful of getting back-to-back wins.
