Austin Spurs Preview
The Spurs picked up a 127-122 victory their last time out against the Texas Legends thanks to big performances from Chaundee Brown Jr. and Charles Bassey. Brown Jr. had 29 points and 10 rebounds while Bassey had 19 points and nine rebounds off the bench. Guard Jalen Adaway also had 25 points, six rebounds, and four assists. It was another solid offensive performance from Austin and showed the depth they had, especially in the front court.
The G League side will continue to grow each game, but players like Adaway, Bassey, and Brown Jr. are starting off the season in fine form. Many fans of the NBA ballclub will be needing to keep their eyes on the trio for the next few weeks, especially a player like Bassey will all of the uncertainty around Jakob Poeltl. Austin will hope to continue to gain momentum against a decent Lakeland Magic squad and keep rolling throughout the Showcase Cup.
Lakeland Magic Preview
The Magic have had the same issues defending that Austin has had in the opening two games this season. After giving up 123 to the Memphis Hustle and 122 to the Birmingham Squadron, the Orlando Magic affiliate will look to tighten up against a high-flying Spurs squad. Two big names to look out for are Jay Scrubb and Simisola Shittu. Scrubb had 28 points against Birmingham and has great basketball IQ and athleticism. Shittu had 18 points and 12 rebounds to his name, and will be a big test for Bassey at the center position.
Both squads are about even in terms of offensive production, with the teams really getting the bulk of it from their front court. It will be an interesting test for Austin to see if they can limit the play of Scrubb, who has prior NBA experience with the Los Angeles Clippers. Overall, this is a very even battle between two loaded rosters, and should be a great watch for fans of both sides.
