After falling just short on Friday to the Texas Legends 120-113, the Austin Spurs will be looking to bounce back in a rematch at the H-E-B Center in Cedar Park, Texas. The Spurs will be looking to avoid an 0-2 start, while the Legends will look to start strong with a 2-0 introduction. The tip-off for tonight’s game will instead be at 7:00 P.M. instead of the previous 7:30.

Austin Spurs Preview

Despite putting up 113 points in the first game, the Spurs fell short of the W. Although, there were some big positives coming out of the first game. One that really flies off the stat sheet is center Charles Bassey. Bassey, who applied his collegiate trade at Western Kentucky, put up 33 points, shooting 15-20 with an impressive 15 rebounds. Many in the organization were intrigued by what Bassey could produce, and his first game with the G League Spurs was nothing short of impressive. Guard Jalen Adaway also provided 20 points with four rebounds and three assists. Tommy Kuhse was not as productive as the others, totaling ten points, and shooting 5-11 with three rebounds and four assists.

Austin was able to really go after the Legend defense but was not able to put together consecutive defensive stops. This will be addressed throughout the G-League season, but the offensive creativity shown will leave a positive impression on Spurs fans. If players like Bassey and Adaway continue to perform, expect the big league club to come calling soon. The G-League club will be looking for a major bounce back tonight in front of the home fans once again. The key to victory for Austin is to lock up that backcourt that the Legends feel is their strongest area, and if they can do that then they will have much more success defensively.

Texas Legends Preview

The Legends were able to pull out the opening night win with an offensive onslaught, fronted by exciting rookie Jaden Hardy. Hardy played thirty-five minutes, totaling 23 points but only shooting 7-17. He also had three rebounds and six assists. The top scorer for the Legends was guard Mckinley Wright IV, who had 29 points, two rebounds, and three assists. Both guards played 35 and 36 minutes respectfully and provided Texas with a solid backcourt. Tyler Dorsey was also a key impact with 18 points and seven rebounds to his name.

The Dallas Mavericks affiliate will look to tighten down defensively to limit the Spurs’ offensive output that kept them in the game. The key to victory for Texas is to involve the backcourt of Hardy and Wright IV as much as possible. Doing this will increase their chances of outscoring the Spurs given Austin’s woes defensively. Overall, I believe it will be another tight and intense game, as this is a deep rivalry.
