Austin Spurs Preview

Austin is coming off of a disappointing loss in their last game against Birmingham. Despite big performances from Alize Johnson with a double-double (26 points, 12 rebounds, four assists) and Chaundee Brown Jr. with 21 points, the Spurs still came up short. It was a lack of production from the Austin offense that ended up hurting them in this game. While Brown Jr. and Johnson are putting up great numbers so far, it has sometimes been difficult for Austin to get production out of others on the team.

Giving up over 100 points once again, the defense was again a big talking point in their recent loss. Austin will have to try and batten down the hatches on the defensive side of the ball. It has been a common theme throughout this season, and while the offense has been usually superb, the defense has needed some fine-tuning.

Mexico City Preview

Mexico City has a very talented roster and has gotten off to a decent start. They are coming off of a big 110-100 vs. the Lakeland Magic. While former first-round pick Jahlil Okafor did not play, Shabazz Napier had 16 points and four assists. The leading scorers for the night were Gary Clark with 25 and Alfonzo Mckinnie with 23. Clark and Mckinnie have been key elements for this Mexico City team that has gone 4-2 so far this season.

This undoubtedly will be one of Austin’s biggest tests so far this season. A team that plays good defense, but even better offense, The Capitanes will be looking to make a statement with a big road win in Austin, as these teams are considered some of the best in the G-League. A key element for Austin to win this game is to really tighten up on the defensive side of the ball. If they can’t do this, Mexico City will have too much firepower for Austin to keep up with. It is sure to be a fun and exciting game to enjoy while bearing the cold weather.
