Austin Spurs Preview

It is not easy to beat some of the top teams in the NBA G-League, so it was a very surprising result on Saturday night that saw the Austin Spurs knock off the number one team in the Western conference in the Memphis Hustle. Olin Carter Jr. had a monster night from behind the arc, going 5-6 from downtown and finishing with 25 points. Carter has the ability to get hot from three point range, and used it to full authority in the win. Chaundee Brown Jr. has perhaps been the best player in the past two weeks for Austin. He finished with 23 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists. Brown is considered by many around the organization to be the “heart of the team” and provides a veteran-like mentality to a younger squad.

While forward Jordan Hall only had four points, his playmaking abilities stole the show as he got nine rebounds and nine assists,  allowing him to create quality shots for others around him. Adrian Delph was a spark plug off the bench and finished with 16 points and six rebounds on the night. Overall, this was a performance that many people felt Austin could have and should have been producing all season long.

Memphis Hustle Preview

The Hustle were shocked in the loss to Austin on Saturday night. They will surely be looking to enact revenge on their Western Conference foe. Dakota Mathias did not have the impact he would have liked. He only totaled 14 points and five rebounds, stats that are well under his normal totals. Justin Bean and Matt Hurt both put up 17 points a piece and will be looking to dominate the boards better vs. a scrappy Spurs team. With the absence of Kenny Lofton Jr., the Hustle are missing a vital piece of the puzzle in their front court, and Austin will hope to take advantage of that for the second game running.

With both teams in polar opposite positions, who will be able to claim victory in tonight’s Monday matchup? What are your predictions for this game?
