Falling to a score of 106-99 in the first of a two-game series vs. the G-League Ignite, the Austin Spurs will hope to rebound as they look to get back to winning ways inside the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park. Despite a late attempt at a comeback, the Spurs just had too much to do and not enough time to do it on Wednesday night.

Even with the absence of star player Scoot Henderson, the Ignite should just how much talent they have on the roster, and will hope to sweep the series and improve to 8-9 on the season. Austin is at 5-12 and needs to begin to win games very quickly in order to have any chance of making it into the playoff picture. This is indeed a make-or-break game in both teams’ seasons and could determine the trajectory of each team. It will certainly be a game you don’t want to miss.

Austin Spurs Preview

The Spurs were without three key players in the loss on Wednesday night, including star center Charles Bassey and Chaundee Brown Jr. This certainly did not help Austin, and when Bassey is not in the team, it makes a massive difference in the performance of the squad as a whole. Dominick Barlow has been a bright light for Austin however, totaling 26 points and seven rebounds.

Barlow has been continuing to improve at a rapid pace and has been one of the Spurs’ most consistent performers this season. Brandon Randolph has also been a key mid-season pick-up, as he had 17 points, six rebounds, and six assists. He’s been able to help deliver some decent production with the absence of Brown Jr. and Blake Wesley being sent back and forth between Austin and San Antonio.

The key issue for Austin has been and always seems to be its inability to defend in the front court when Bassey is out. Austin does not have too much size on the roster, and in some games, they can get dominated in stretches. They will hope to maintain these issues as they face another crucial game at hand.

G-League Ignite Preview

Despite the absence of their star man in Scoot Henderson, The Ignite still flexed their muscles and showed off their numerous young talents. Pooh Jeter had a big night off the bench with 22 points and led the scorers on the night, while Leonard Miller had 20 points and 11 rebounds. John Jenkins is another name to look out for, as the guard had 13 points and four assists.

This team is explosive and has loads of athleticism all over the floor. As Wednesday showed, they can really take the game away from you in an instant, and constantly attack throughout the whole regulation. Austin will have to play some of its best basketball of the season in order to get a mass
