After dropping their last game 115-82 vs. the Ontario Clippers, the Austin Spurs are looking to keep their playoff hopes afloat as they face the Sioux Falls Skyforce in a tough road game. The Spurs currently sit at 3-7, three games behind Sioux Falls for the sixth and final playoff spot. The Spurs have had an up-and-down year this season, but a win in Sioux Falls would really help their chances of getting back in the playoff race. It is at that point in the season that they can still salvage something. The tip-off for tonight’s game will be at 6:30 P.M. CST.

Austin Spurs Preview

After a blowout loss at the hands of Ontario on January 21st, the Spurs will have to regroup quickly as they go on a one-game road trip against a playoff-fighting team in the Skyforce. Despite the 30+ point loss, there were still some bright performances to point out.

The leading scorers on the night were Dominick Barlow and Alize Johnson, who both had 18 points. Johnson also totaled yet another double-double with 11 rebounds off the bench, showing how good of a player he is whether he starts or comes into the game. Blake Wesley also had 14 points, including a nice breakaway dunk. The rookie out of Notre Dame has so much explosiveness when he drives to the basket, and also causes disruptions on the defensive side of the ball, where he had two steals. Chaundee Brown Jr. also had 10 points and started the game out really physically, and can definitely be recognized as the heart and soul of this team.

This is undoubtedly one of the most important games of the season. For Austin, this is a must-win game to ensure they are still in the playoff hunt, and taking a game off of the sixth-place team would reduce the gap to two games.

Sioux Falls Skyforce Preview

It has been an up-and-down season for the Skyforce so far, but it is safe to say that they have some talent on the offensive end. Forward Jamal Cain lead the scorers on the night with 27 points and nine rebounds. Cain will be one of Sioux Falls’ biggest threats. Guard Mychal Mulder also had 23 points and eight rebounds and is a veteran presence on this roster. With the likes of Cain and Mulder, the Skyforce’s strength is their ability to dominate the offensive side of the game. With defense being an issue for Austin this season, especially near the paint, can they cope with the talent that Sioux Falls has?
