AUSTIN – To end 2019, the Austin Spurs announced Tuesday they traded the returning rights to forward Josh Huestis to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in exchange for guard Angel Rodriguez.

Huestis appeared in 27 games for Austin last season, averaging 8.2 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. The former Oklahoma City Thunder guard was acquired by San Antonio during the 2018 offseason before being placed on waivers and assigned to the G League.

Rodriguez may be familiar to some Spurs fans.

The former Miami Hurricanes guard went undrafted in 2016 before joining the Spurs in summer league. Since then, Rodriguez played in France, Israel and back home in Puerto Rico, before joining RGV last season.

This season with the Vipers, Rodriguez has played in 20 games, starting in 18. He averages 16.2 points per game, along with 4.1 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 2.5 steals.

Rodriguez will wear #13 and join the Spurs starting Jan. 3 when they take on the Greensboro Swarm.
