AUSTIN – The Austin Spurs made five selections during the 2016 NBA D-League Draft on Sunday.
With the 18th overall pick in the first round of the draft, Austin selected forward Maurice Bolden from Southern Mississippi.
The 27-year-old Bolden has been playing basketball professionally since 2012, most recently in Canada with the Windsor Express of the National Basketball League. Bolden averaged 10.1 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.5 blocks in 47 games with the Express last season. Bolden also shot 48 percent on field goals, while shooting 35 percent on three pointers.

Out of the selections, Austin’s fifth and final pick of the draft is probably the most familiar. Alexis Wangmene out of Texas returns to Austin after playing overseas the last several years. Wangmene, 27, played last season for BM Slam Ostrów Wielkopolski in Poland, where he averaged 9.3 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.
Wangmene played for the Austin Spurs during the 2012-13 season, appearing in four games. He also appeared in three games for the San Antonio Spurs Las Vegas Summer League team in 2013.
Wangmene is the adopted son of San Antonio Spurs General Manager R.C. Buford.
“We’re excited to get started with this new, talented group. Training camp starts next Wednesday and we look forward to preparing for our home opener on Nov. 13,” Austin Spurs Head Coach Ken McDonald told Meagan Miller.
And Bolden seems just as excited, posting a picture of his son donning a Tony Parker Spurs shirt after the draft announcement.

The Austin Spurs 2016-17 season kicks off on Sunday, November 13th against the Oklahoma City Blue.
