Despite an almost impressive comeback, the Austin Spurs fell short of a win against the Lakeland Magic by the score of 117-107. The Spurs attempted to rally in the fourth quarter, but the Lakeland lead was too much to overcome. Now, they look to top the Orlando Magic affiliate in the second game of the series. This would bring their record to 2-2. The tip-off for today’s game is once again at 6:00 PM CST.

Austin Spurs Preview

The Austin Spurs will be looking to even their record at 2-2 following a disappointing loss to the Magic on Friday night. Austin will try and find that offensive supply that Charles Bassey had provided in the first two games of the season before getting the call-up to the NBA. It remains yet to be seen if Bassey will stay in San Antonio or get assigned back to Austin.

The Spurs do still have some talent with the G-League squad. Especially recently, when the team got a boost with the arrival of Spurs 2022 draft pick Malaki Branham. Branham had eight points in 12 minutes for Austin on Friday night and will hope to be a key player alongside guys like Chaundee Brown Jr. and Jalen Adaway. Brown Jr. was the top scorer for Austin with 16 points while a big 10-point push off the bench came from Jorden Goldwire. With the loss of Bassey, Austin will hope to find a groove and continue to produce better offensive numbers while also pulling in rebounds.

Lakeland Magic Preview

Lakeland’s offensive firepower was just too much for Austin in the first game of the two-game series. There was plenty of offensive production spread around the team, with six players having double-digit point nights. Jay Scrubb was the leading scorer with 19 and was considered the star of the squad. Forward Simisola Shittu had 12 points and eight rebounds while center Joel Ajayi had 15 points and four rebounds. They also got a major impact from the bench as Drake Jefferies and Alex Morales had 10 points each.

This is an offensive team that really gets input from all sides of the court, regardless of starters or bench players. Austin will have to look to limit the likes of Scrubb and Shittu in order to keep this game close. Austin’s defense has gotten progressively better through the first three games. Although, there is still work to be done. The Austin Spurs will hope to avenge the loss and get back on track tonight.
