Atlanta Hawks assign Tavares to Austin

The Atlanta Hawks have announced today that they have assigned Walter Tavares to the Austin Spurs via the Developmental League’s flexible assignment rule.

Via the press release:

Tavares has played in 10 D-League games this season (eight with Austin and two with Canton), averaging 9.8 points, 9.6 rebounds and 2.4 blocks in 21.4 minutes (.686 FG%, .800 FT%).

This is Tavares’ sixth assignment to Austin this season, and seventh D-League assignment overall as the Hawks continue to develop the 23-year-old center out of Cape Verde.

The 7-foot-3 Tavares has played in 10 games for the Hawks this season, averaging 2.3 points, 2.0 rebounds and 0.6 blocks in 6.9 minutes of action per game.

Tavares will be in action for the Austin Spurs (19-10) tomorrow morning as the silver and black face off against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (15-15). Tipoff is at 11 AM from the Cedar Park Center.
